Wimborne.Indoor Meeting
Wednesday 6 February, - 10.00 for 10.30am
Location: Meetings Room at Priests House Museum, 23-27 High Street, Wimborne. BH21 1HR. SZ009999
Further to my earlier note a pleasure to confirm arrangements for our forthcoming indoor meeting on Wednesday 6 February, 10 for 10.30, when we will be joined by Roger Goulding of the Cranborne Chase AONB to take forward to the next stage the conservation/way-marking et cetera of the historic length of the county boundary which traverses the designated arear of the AONB. We shall be taking as our ‘type-site’ that length of boundary between Shermal Gate and Garston Wood which ‘runs’ with the bounds recorded in the tenth-century charters for both the manors of Chalke (Wiltshire) and Handley (Dorset); a length registered as the ‘Shire Rack.’ Led by KB, GH, AM and RW.
Roger has confirmed the booking of the Meetings Room at the Priests House Museum in Wimborne. Its address is 23-27 High Street, Wimborne BH21 1HR, and is sited towards the western end of the High Street opposite the Minster. The nearest [Pay and Display] car park is the High Street Car Park behind the Museum [Hanham Road?] (accessible, as I recall, by a footpath through to the High Street) located along the north bank – the town side – of the River Allen beside the A349 from Poole where it crosses the bridge into the town – on into the High Street.

KB will bring along coffee/tea et cetera. Roger will bring along a laptop/projector and in support of our maps and pencils we will be able to take a virtual walk along the AONB/DCB ‘length,’ photos kindly assembled by MF. Do join us all for what promises to be a very interesting, forward-looking, far-reaching (OE racu ‘reach,’ today’s ‘rack’) morning.
Also look forward to catching up with matters further to the DCB 2019 programme – and am sure we will be able to find somewhere close by for a light pub lunch after the meeting.
Very best wishes – and don’t hesitate to get in touch further to ideas – or queries. Katherine
